Change for Hunger is Food for Greater Elgin’s annual fundraising effort that invites children in area schools to contribute pocket change to help provide food for people in the community. This year, those children raised a record $35,000!
The campaign will culminate with a pizza party at Elgin Academy in the coming days.
This year’s campaign was led by Mary Fontaine, who worked with over 40 schools and local businesses that supported the fundraising activities of the children and youth.
Parents can attest that not a sofa cushion went unturned in the search for change. Schools held fundraisers and contests to see what they could do while the faculty shaped classes to raise awareness of the values of community, compassion, and generosity.
“This was especially meaningful to us at Food for Greater Elgin” remarked Executive Director Michael Montgomery, “Because these children know other families who are struggling with having enough food to eat.”
