On October 16, Elgin will hold its annual CROP Hunger Walk, a two-mile hike through
downtown Elgin that raises money for anti-poverty work in Elgin and around the
world.
CROP walks is one of the original individual fundraising events, where walkers
raise money by asking for the support of their family and friends and then going
on the CROP walk. A wide array of nonprofit groups and religious groups
participate, with 25% of the money staying in Elgin, and FFGE gets significant funding
from this event.
“Hunger is a global problem, a genuine crisis emerging from climate change, poverty, and the lack of rural development,” says FFGE Executive Director Michael Montgomery. “CROP is a good way of acting locally to bring about global change, and we want to be a part of that.”
FFGE is also pleased to share that ED Michael Montgomery has been designated the honorary chairperson of this year’s walk.
