On February 5, 2019, Food For Greater Elgin celebrated one full year of leadership from Executive Director, Shelia Jackson. Shelia has brought great energy and a fresh new perspective to our client-choice food pantry and has raised the bar of excellence in every area of operation, from parking, to check-in, to communication. Shelia has led staff and board with determination and decisive action, which has propelled FFGE ahead farther and faster than ever.
Looking back on her first year, Shelia is particularly proud of the new atmosphere in our warehouse. “Having it brightened with new lights, clean, and organized with food on shelves gives our clients some dignity and pride,” says Shelia, adding that her biggest accomplishment of the year has been ensuring clients feel like FFGE is giving them a hand up, not a hand out. “When clients stop me to say thank you, it feels so good to know we’ve made a difference.”
A lot may have changed at FFGE in the last 12 months, but under Shelia’s leadership the most important thing has stayed the same: our number one priority remains to provide food security and access to community resources in order to stabilize lives. And that is what we will continue to do for many years to come.

Would you like to donate to keep our food supplies stocked? Because of our relationship with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, we are able to secure $8-worth of food for every $1 you donate. If you’d like to feed a family today, click here.
