Gifts That Keep Giving
November 24, 2020
When we give back to others, we don’t always see the impact of our actions.
There are stories of good deeds that remain forever hidden:
- The child who remembers the food that their family was given when they were poor and didn’t know what to do
- The memories of how “this could happen to anybody” became “this happened to me”
- Knowing that we could pull ourselves out of the short term financial pothole, what kept that pothole from becoming a pit, a bottomless pit, was being able to get help from others to pay the bills.
If you can get your food from Food for Greater Elgin, you can pay the rent, keep up the mortgage, and stay ahead of the grim reaper called credit card debt.
The stories that I hear, always coupled with “Don’t use my name!” is how these memories were seared in people’s lives. When they had worked out of it, had put the pit behind them, they remembered the help that they had received and passed that help on to others.
To you we say: thank you!
