Friday was a day that we were firing on all cylinders: Sergio brought back an extra 8 pallets of food, ‘R Church’ volunteers boxed up some 60 food boxes that we will use to bring to low income senior living communities that are in need of food, and over a dozen ‘grab and go’ bags were prepared for the Elgin Police Department for their emergency use. We delivered 16 ‘boxes and a bag’ (dry goods and a bag of meat and milk) to Safe Haven of Gardiner Place in East Dundee, and 82 people were served at our ‘seniors only’ distribution of food.
Whew! What a good feeling!
I would be remiss if I did not mention the gifts that arrived in the nick of time this week: Colleen Stauffacher made over 20 surgical masks for our volunteers to wear, and Kane County Emergency Preparedness was able to get us another 600 surgical masks. Gifts both large and small continue to arrive.
All in all, in March we served 2019 families (some several times), up from February’s 1856. In the face of unprecedented need, we are doing unprecedented service. Thank you for all that you do!
