The delivery of over 160 boxes of food to the Housing Authority of Elgin launched a new initiative by Food for Greater Elgin to get food to the hardest-hit neighborhoods of the greater Elgin area. The idea is to target neighborhoods where over 20% of the population is under the poverty level and provide them with special assistance.
First up were the facilities of the Housing Authority of Elgin. On the second Wednesday of each month, food will be delivered to long time FFGE partner Bethesda Church of God in Christ for sharing. In the month of August, that falls on the 12, at 10 a.m. Other sites will follow in subsequent weeks.
This initiative is made possible by individual donors to FFGE, a special grant from the Illinois Treasurer’s Office, a grant from the Elgin Coronavirus Relief Fund, and food provided by the United States Department of Agriculture through Northern Illinois Food Bank.
