Food For Greater Elgin is excited to share that our interim executive director, Michael Montgomery, has been honored with the Community Crisis Center’s Partners in Peace award!
“I am pleased and honored to accept the ‘Partners in Peace’ award on behalf of Food for Greater Elgin and its Board of Directors, 200 some volunteers, and an array of supporters who have worked tirelessly to support our neighbors who are food insecure. We provide food, but also compassion, empowerment, and hope.
In particular, I am delighted with the Crisis Center’s public recognition of what is so often ignored, that:
- Peace requires justice,
- Peace requires compassion, empowerment, and hope;
- Something as simple and basic as food is a statement that, in times of crisis and pandemic, we will not abandon those who are poor.
I would be remiss if I did not lift up the Community Crisis Center and the ways that you all work for justice with compassion, empowerment, and hope. Because we are all in this together! Thank you, and let’s get to work!”
