Here’s something that happened this past week:
Last Friday, a young person came to our doors after our distribution, explaining that they did not need food, but they did need help. A few days earlier, they had been in a traffic accident and their car was damaged in that cursed middle ground—too damaged to drive, but under the insurance deductible. The police had investigated and it was the other person’s fault, but that driver had no insurance. Their parents were far away and could not help.
What should they do?
Many of us have had calls from our own children in similar circumstances, so I was sympathetic, even if personally helpless. I’m not a lawyer; we don’t have money to repair people’s cars. All we could do was give her contact information to two legal organizations and direct her to a very low-cost medical clinic. But why had she come to us?
“Oh,” she replied, “You help people.”
In a nutshell, that’s what we do. Thank you for making it possible!
