As Chairman of the Board of Food For Greater Elgin, I am very pleased and excited to announce that Michael Montgomery has agreed to accept the position of Executive Director of Food For Greater Elgin.
Michael has been FFGE’s Interim Executive Director since February 2020. He joined FFGE during the most difficult of times, when the pantry’s finances were unstable, and the world was entering a global pandemic. Despite these unprecedented challenges, Michael rose to the occasion, excelled in learning the position of Executive Director and immediately began work on stabilizing Food For Greater Elgin’s finances.
During the course of the last year, Michael has solidified FFGE’s staffing, helped stabilize our financial position, and all while helping FFGE feed over 80,000 people during the pandemic.
As the board got to know Michael over the last year as our Interim Executive Director, it became clear he possessed all of the characteristics and skills we were looking for in our permanent Executive Director. In addition to his executive leadership skills as a member of the clergy, Michael has an MBA in nonprofit management from the University of Chicago, and his doctoral program introduced him to issues important to us at FFGE such as organizational transitions and exploration of topics such as poverty, social justice, and equity.
Over the last 14-months as our Interim Executive Director, Michael has excelled at everything we’ve asked of him. The board is thrilled to have Michael in the fold for what we hope will be many more years of successfully addressing the issue of food insecurity in Elgin, West Dundee, East Dundee, and South Elgin.
The Board of Food For Greater Elgin unanimously approved offering Michael the position of Executive Director and removing the “Interim” tag from his title. The Board believes that Michael has gone above and beyond to further the best interests of FFGE and believes that he will continue to excel as the Executive Director going forward. We believe that the future of FFGE is in good hands with Michael Montgomery, and we look forward to working together to help those in need and to continue the fight against food insecurity.
